Letter to the Pennsylvania delegates, 1776 February 7.

Smith, as chairman of the Committee of Correspondence of York County, Pennsylvania, forwards a resolution [not present] of the Committee, to be laid before the Congress adding "This County is very Zealous in the Cause of Liberty, and will upon any Occasion be ready to stand forth for the Defence of America." Smith refers Congress to the resolution on the subject of troops to be raised in York and notes that Lieutenant Colonel [Thomas] Hartley can explain further. The resolution may have referred to the regiment later raised by Hartley which served from January 1777 to April 1779 at which time it became the 11th Pennsylvania.
